Marty Strong became a navy SEAL in his late teens but it was more by chance than by planning. But that chance set him up to development the mindset and skills he’d need to succeed well beyond his navy SEAL days. But stepping out of the SEAL structure at retirement was a big shift and it took some time to find his place as an entrepreneur. A few decades later, Marty has written nine novels, 2 business books, he’s been a counter terrorism consultant for various governments, financial advisor, and CEO of a government equity company among other things. He’s learned that every step in your career is preparing you for the next step, and you often have no idea what that will be.

But he truly earned his merit by using his time as CEO of Cypress (the longest standing CEO ever for a semiconductor company) to develop systems that dramatically improved internal operations including Human Resources, scheduling, quality, planning, and culture. He realized that these things were essential to the longterm survival of the company. He recorded his work in these areas and is here today to share the history and war stories that lead to their development.

TJ also shares his thoughts on the issue of AI; its benefits and limitations.

  1. Write down the problems you’re having with your team in great detail. Then ask yourself if your actions are consistently moving int o the right direction.

  2. Quality. We all know about quality of products but quality is more of a quality of life. It’s about how you write, think and interact with other people.

  3. The effort to do things right has to be there. We don’t have the standard of excellence that we used to. Effort matters, working hard and going the extra mile will pay off for entrepreneurs.
